DLRMagazine 154/155: The power of salt
Without solar and wind power there would be no Energiewende (energy transition). And no energy transition without energy storage. Energy storage materials store the energy and release it when it is needed. Salt could play an important role here. The new and worldwide unique test facility TESIS of the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum fuer Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) will research this. The September issue of the DLR Magazine features an interview with the man who makes salts flow and his team, who are exploring new horizons in terms of molten salt storage. We are also entering new territories when we talk about automated driving in the future. Intelligent cars will change driving as a whole and the urban scene in particular. DLR researchers are investigating how at the test facility in Lower Saxony, among others.
