Former German Chancellor Schröder has been elected to the board of Russian energy giant Rosneft. Though controversial at home, his seat was all but certain as the Russian government nominated him for the post.

US President Donald Trump had suggested he would skip a meeting of 10 southeast Asian countries that include key US allies. The White House now says he will attend after all.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel faced protests in Estonia's capital Tallinn. Some 150 demonstrators from the nationalist-conservative EKRE party rallied against the bloc's migration policies and refugee quota system.
