New telescope camera captures more than 100,000 stars in a single shot

Researchers have launched an automated sky survey called the Zwicky Transient Facility to search for fleeting objects in space, including supernovae, stars mangled by black holes, asteroids and comets. Using a robotic telescope-mounted camera, the survey captured its first 24,000 by 24,000 pixel image on Nov. 1.
