The former US national security advisor is cooperating with investigators and has admitted to lying to the FBI. Prosecutors said a "very senior member" of Donald Trump's transition team directed him to contact Russia.

German police evacuate Potsdam Christmas market on 'IED' suspicion
Potsdam's Christmas market was hurriedly cleared as the bomb squad "disabled" a suspicious package on the scene. Police are now trying to ascertain whether it was real or a dummy meant to look like an IED.
UN asks for record $22.5 billion for humanitarian aid in 2018
The United Nations has appealed for $22.5 billion to provide humanitarian aid to more than 90 million people next year. Armed conflicts and natural disasters have driven up the estimated aid total to a record level.

Pope Francis uses 'Rohingya' to refer to refugees
The Catholic pontiff used the word Rohingya when addressing refugees in Dhaka, who crossed from Myanmar into Bangladesh. He had been urged not to use the word during his earlier stay in Myanmar.

FIFA World Cup draw: Germany with Mexico, Sweden and South Korea in Group F
The draw has been held for the 2018 World Cup, which kicks off in Russia next summer. Germany will open the defense of their 2014 World Cup title against Mexico, before facing Sweden and South Korea in Group F.

German prosecutors are reported to have found that Franz Beckenbauer made a false statement regarding the scandal related to the 2006 World Cup. There was no immediate comment from the footballing legend.
