Latest news - What's new? - Committee on Employment and Social Affairs 29-01-2018 10:30 AM CET The next EMPL committee meetings will take place on: - Monday 19 February 2018 from 16.45 to 18.45 (Interparliamentary Committee meeting) - Wednesday, 21 February from 9.00 to 12.30 and from 14.30 to 18.30 and Thursday, 22 February from 9.00-12.30 in Brussels. EMPL Committee participates in the paperless project, therefore no paper documents are available in the meeting room. The EU concluded the CRPD on 22 January 2011; the convention is binding on the institutions of the Union and the Member States in accordance with Article 216 of the Treaty on the functioning of the European Union. On 8 January 2015, the Conference of Presidents (CoP) of the European Parliament tasked the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs with setting up an inter-committee network on the implementation of the CRPD at political level made up of Members from each Committee concerned, assisted by the Committee Secretariats and presided over by the Chair of the EMPL Committee or its representative, in order to promote public debate and the political role of the EP in the implementation of the CRPD. Following the CoP decision, the constitutive meeting of the CRPD Network was held on 23 September 2015, chaired by Mr Ádám Kósa, representative of the EMPL Committee. The Network reviews, screens documents and activities to raise awareness of possible disability-related issues and promotes a coordinated approach whenever possible.
