19-01-2018 01:30 PM CET The situation and rights of EU citizens in the UK and UK citizens in the Member States of the Union post Brexit is one of the most important issues in the Brexit negotiations between the United Kingdom and the European Commission. The European Parliament has called for the withdrawal agreement to incorporate the full set of rights citizens currently enjoy and to ensure reciprocity, equity, symmetry and non-discrimination for EU citizens in the United Kingdom and UK citizens in the European Union. On 1 February 2018 the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs, the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs and the Committee on Petitions will hold a public hearing to take stock of the situation on citizens' rights after the announcement in December 2017 that sufficient progress has been achieved in the negotiations for the withdrawal agreement.
