28-03-2018 12:08 PM CEST On 21 March 2018, TERR Special Committee will hold a public hearing dedicated to the protection of rights of victims of terrorism in the EU. On the eve of commemoration of the attacks at Brussels National Airport and Maelbeek metro station on 22 March 2016, and the attack on Westminster Bridge in London on 22 March 2017, the hearing will pay tribute to the victims of terrorism while tackling the issues still at stake to ensure that their rights are appropriately guaranteed within the European Union. Members will listen to the experiences and recommendations of victims, high-level practitioners, representatives of the civil society and of national authorities of Member States. The issues addressed will include cross-border situations, access to justice and adequate financial and psychological support, awareness raising, and appropriate coordination at EU level. Subsequently, their discussion with Mr Raphaël Malagnini from the Belgian Prosecutor's Office will focus on the judicial cooperation in the fight against terrorism financing. The committee meeting will end with an exchange of views with Commissioner Pierre Moscovici on the EU actions in his remit aimed at preventing terrorism financing: EU customs plan, cash controls, illegal trafficking of cultural goods and VAT fraud.
