Frans Timmermans, Commission, First Vice-President attending PETI Committee
During an extraordinary meeting on 3 May, PETI will hold an exchange of views with Commission First VP Frans Timmermans. The final text of key messages for the PETI contribution to the Parliament's summary report in the framework of the Structured Dialogue will be voted on 16 May by PETI Coordinators.

At its meeting on 16 May, PETI will vote on adopting the opinion to the AFCO report on the Commission's proposal for a new Regulation on the European citizens' initiative (ECI).

Famagusta.Abandoned hotels and the beach at Varosha in Famagusta .Northern Cyprus.
The Committee on Petitions will conduct a fact-finding visit to Famagusta, Cyprus, on 7-8 May 2018. The purpose of the mission, is to reassess the situation in Famagusta, and in particular Varosha, the sealed-off section of the city, in the context of the follow-up to petition 733/2004, 10 years after the Committee's previous fact-finding visit to the island, which took place on 25-28 November 2007. The petition was submitted by Loizos Afxentiou on behalf of the Famagusta Refugee Movement.

At its meeting on 16 May, PETI will vote on an oral question and motion for resolution on tackling precarious and temporary employment in the European Union. The oral question will be tabled to the plenary session on 28- 30 May 2018.

EU Ombudsman in PETI Committee
At its meeting of 16 May, PETI will receive the European Ombudsman, Ms Emily O'Reilly, who will present her Annual Report from 2017. Members will have the opportunity to exchange views with the Ombudsman on the progress of her work compared to previous years and the compliance rates of the Union institutions in following her recommendations on improving administrative functioning and avoiding maladministration.
