Situation in Hungary: committee debate

The Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs will look into the situation in Hungary on 12.04.18, to determine whether the country is at risk of breaching EU values. The Committee was tasked with studying the situation in Hungary, with a view to activating Article 7(1) of the EU Treaty, in May 2017. The preventive mechanism of Article 7(1) TEU can be activated only in case of a 'clear risk of a serious breach' of the values that the EU is founded on, as per Article 2 TEU.




EU external strategy against early and forced marriages: committee vote

The Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality will vote on its opinion on how child, forced and early marriage violates human rights and how the EU's external action can best contribute to eradicating this practice. The European External Action Service is asked to suggest a strategy to fight against early and child marriages with specific actions, objectives and dedicated funding, with the overall goal of eradicating the practice by 2030. The meeting will be held on 12.04.18.




Plant protection products authorisation: committee debate with Commission, EFSA

The Special Committee on the Union's authorisation procedure for pesticides will hold its first meeting on 12.04.18. It will meet representatives from the European Commission and from the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) to specifically discuss the authorisation procedure for plant protection products, and other detailed questions linked to the Committee's mandate and the work that lays ahead.




Unfair trading practices in the food supply chain: committee debate

The Committee on Agriculture will go over the proposed legislation on unfair trading practices in business-to-business relationships in the food supply chain, together with Agriculture and Rural Development Commissioner Phil Hogan, on 12.04.18. The Committee has made a long-standing call on the Commission to present EU-wide legislation intended to protect farmers from the 'unfair trading practices' imposed by other players in the food supply chain, such as processors and retailers.
