10-04-2018 05:32 PM CEST On Wednesday afternoon, 11 April 2018, UN Women and the EU bring together experts and decision-makers for a high-level conference entitled "All on board - Closing the digital gap for women and girls in developing countries". Linda McAvan, the Chair of the Committee on Development, will be among the speakers of the closing panel. Women in developing countries are nearly 25% less likely to be connected to the internet and millions of women don't have mobile phone connections while their male counterparts do. Closing this digital gap for women and girls in developing countries can open up opportunities for education, livelihoods, health and well-being of women and girls. Successfully addressing the gap has the potential to be a game changer for gender equality and for reaching the Sustainable Development Goals and will be the subject of discussions of the event which will be webstreamed live from the Berlaymont in Brussels (15.00-17:00).
