Today's release shows that in 2017, an estimated 29.2 million adults drank alcohol in the week before being interviewed for the ONS Opinions and Lifestyle Survey. The latest data reveals that men are still more likely to drink alcohol than women. Looking at drinking habits by age, those aged 45 to 64 years were more likely to report drinking alcohol in the previous week. Other key findings include: 16 to 24-year olds are less likely to drink than any other age group. However, when they do drink they are more likely to "binge" drink alcohol on their heaviest drinking day. Since 2005, teetotalism has increased among those aged 16 to 44 years and has fallen among those aged 65 years and above. 20.4% of survey respondents reported that they did not drink alcohol at all. 7 in 10 people working in managerial and professional occupations said they drank alcohol during the previous week. |
