Fly me to the Moon: students use Concurrent Engineering to design lunar mission!

Concurrent Engineering is a novel approach where multiple subsystems are designed simultaneously, potentially leading to huge efficiency savings. ESA see this as a valuable tool, so from 1 – 4 May 2018 ESA hosted again an Educational Concurrent Engineering Workshop to introduce the technique to the engineers and scientists of tomorrow.

Trois missions sont actuellement considérées pour la cinquième mission de classe moyenne du programme scientifique Vision cosmique de l'ESA, pour une date de lancement prévue en 2032 : un sondage à très haute énergie du ciel et des débuts de l'Univers, un observatoire infrarouge pour étudier la formation des étoiles et un orbiteur pour la planète Vénus.

Astro Pi: Mission Space Lab teams receive their experiment data straight from the ISS!

ESA, in collaboration with the Raspberry Pi Foundation, is delighted to announce that 116 school student teams have received the data collected from their exciting space experiments on board the International Space Station (ISS)!

With the help of Astro Pi Ed and Izzy, the teams from 18 ESA Member and Associate Member States made use of a range of interesting sensors and cameras to investigate life in space and life on Earth. Astro Pi Ed helped investigate how astronauts can affect the environmental conditions within the ISS, as well as map the magnetic field of Earth. Meanwhile, Izzy used her near-infrared camera to study Earth: investigating vegetation growth, weather patterns, and the impact humans have on our planet were just a few of the things she helped the selected teams explore.

Space Medicine Education Internship opportunity

ESA's Space Medicine Team (SMT) is looking for a student intern to support the SMT's education activities for a six-month internship at the European Astronaut Centre (EAC), near Cologne, Germany. The SMT is composed of 25 space medicine experts from a variety of health-related fields, whose task is to ensure the physical and mental health of ESA astronauts, helping them to be productive and thrive in the harsh environment of space.
