Happy 159th birthday Theodore Roosevelt

Mail from the U.S. Department of the Interior

Happy birthday, President Theodore Roosevelt! In the 159 years since Roosevelt was born, his name has become symbolic of our deep commitment to our public lands and a belief in the American conservation ethic.

Often called a "force of nature," his legendary courage and powerful conservation legacy continue to influence lawmakers and provide an example for all nations. His felt passionately about the outdoors and advocated for our national treasures to be managed "for the benefit and enjoyment of the people." As Roosevelt once said, "It is not what we have that will make us a great nation; it is the way in which we use it."

Join Secretary Zinke and all of Interior as we celebrate the life of a great man who enshrined an appreciation of our nation's greatest treasures: our public lands.
