Historic Tax Reform on the Horizon

John Fund writes in Fox News that with the passing of yesterday's House bill, "it looks as if we are on the cusp of real tax reform" for the first time in three decades. The Tax Reform Act of 1986 "set the stage for the economic growth of the 1990s." Flash forward to 2017, and the current preferences embedded in our tax code "drag down our economy overall," Fund writes, meaning a "simpler, fairer tax code is a big part of getting [the] growth" necessary for a more stable economy. Fund explains that if we don't pass tax reform this year, "the moment may be lost for years or even decades. . . . Can our nation and our children and grandchildren afford that delay?"

The Washington Examiner argues that corporate tax cuts will "[make] American businesses more competitive worldwide, and [encourage] them to reinvest overseas profits in jobs and growth back home." Democrats "saw no need to warn people against them when former President Barack Obama supported a cut to the corporate tax rate," the Examiner added.

In foreign policy news, The Wall Street Journal editorial board writes that President Trump's remarks in his November 10 speech to the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation sent the important message that America "has a vital national interest in keeping shipping lanes open and deterring Chinese territorial expansion," deeming continued Chinese expansion "as a threat to regional stability."
