Congress gave final approval Monday to a short extension of federal funding which will allow the government to reopen. The bill, which President Trump is expected to sign into law, provides funding through Feb. 8. The three-day federal shutdown began at midnight Friday after Senate Democrats refused to vote for an extension because it did not include protections for hundreds of thousands of young immigrants brought into the country illegally by their parents. Senate Democrats agreed to support another short-term spending bill Monday after being promised that the immigration issue would be considered. The House then quickly passed the legislation.
