Parliament's committees are meeting representatives of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union to discuss its priorities in relation to the committees' respective areas of responsibility. These meetings will take place during the week of 22.01.18. The Bulgarian Presidency started in the beginning of January and runs until the end of June 2018.

Agencies, Joint Undertakings, Commission, Parliament discharge 2016: committee debate

Commissioner Avramopoulos
The Budgetary Control Committee will go over the budget implementation of the Agencies and the Joint Undertakings for 2016, on 22.01.18. The day after, it will discuss the Commission's budget implementation for 2016 with Commissioners Avramopoulos and Oettinger. The Committee will also look into Parliament's budget implementation for the same year together with EP Secretary-General Klaus Welle and with EP Vice-President responsible for the budget, David-Maria Sassoli, amongst others.




Spirit drinks: definition, presentation and labelling: committee vote

The Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety will vote on its draft legislative report regarding the definition, presentation and labelling of spirit drinks, on 24.01.18. The aim of the proposal is to align EU legislation on spirit drinks with the Lisbon Treaty. It contains technical adjustments and replaces the existing procedures for the management of geographical indications in the spirit drinks sector with new ones modelled on those for agricultural products and foodstuffs.




Gender equality in EU trade agreements: joint committee vote

The Committees on International Trade and on Women's Rights and Gender Equality will vote on the non-legislative report regarding gender equality in EU trade agreements, on 24.01.18. The report presents concrete recommendations on what the EU could do to ensure that trade policies reflect gender equality objectives. The document is structured into three parts dealing with general considerations and objectives, sector specific considerations and objectives, and actions needed at EU level.




Support to female refugees: committee debate with UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador

The Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality will look into the role of the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) in providing support to female refugees, together with Goodwill Ambassador Barbara Hendricks. Appointed in 1987, Barbara Hendricks is the UNHCR's longest-serving Ambassador. She supports UNHCR awareness-raising work and advocates for refugees' rights at national and international levels. The meeting will be held on 24.01.18.




7th Cohesion report: workshop

The Committee on Regional Development will hold a workshop on the 7th Report on Economic, Social and Territorial Cohesion, on 25.01.18. The Report was published by the Commission in October 2017. It is a key document in the context of the upcoming reform of EU Cohesion Policy for the next programming period. The hearing aims to provide input to the non-legislative report that the Committee will be working on in order to deliver Parliament's position ahead of this reform.
