Further details about both of these are given below.

We are now at the stage of finalising our work programme for 2018/19. If you have any suggestions for how our work programme can best meet your needs next financial year, please let us know by emailing ncvin@phe.gov.uk

Updated Cardiovascular disease profiles published

We have just published updated versions of the Cardiovascular disease (CVD) profiles on PHE's Fingertips tool. There are CVD profiles for each clinical commissioning group (CCG), looking at coronary heart disease, diabetes, kidney disease and stroke. The profiles compare the subject CCG with data for England, a group of similar CCGs and its sustainability transformation partnership (STP).

Estimates of patients having a first stroke in England published

A new report has been published which gives estimates of the number of patients experiencing their first ever stroke in England. It can help healthcare professionals understand national stroke incidence and what this might mean for their population. Some of the data presented in the report shows variation in stroke incidence over time, sex, age, deprivation and ethnicity. The estimates of stroke are derived from primary care data that PHE holds, in particular, data from The Health Improvement Network (THIN) GP database has been used.

New report about the Healthier You: NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme

A new report looks at the early progress of the programme. It compares the number of referrals made into the programme against the target, showing that at 43,603 referrals, there were 16% more than expected. Uptake into the programme was also higher than that initially modelled, with 49% of those referred attending the initial assessment. Lastly the report looks at the characteristics of those attending which suggests that the programme is reaching those who are both at greater risk of developing Type 2 diabetes and who typically access healthcare less effectively.

Updated 'how can we do better?' packs for atrial fibrillation and blood pressure available

The 'how can we do better packs' are published in partnership with the Stroke Association, British Heart Foundation and others. They give practical tips to GP practices and CCGs on how they can get better at preventing and treating strokes and high blood pressure. There are updated intelligence packs for atrial fibrillation and packs for blood pressure for each CCG.

Cardiovascular disease action plan

Transforming participation in chronic kidney disease (CKD) programme closes

The UK Renal Registry's (UKRR) Transforming participation in CKD programme has now closed. Thanks to further funding from NHS England however, the UKRR will continue collecting patient reported measures alongside the clinical data that currently makes up the UKRR Annual Report, and will work to ensure the systems in place to support this are embedded and sustainable.  The team will also continue to work in partnership with renal teams to explore how these measures can be used in practice. You can read more about the achievements of the programme, and what is next in the latest newsletter.
