Golden handcuffs: When cheap San Francisco rent is a blessing and a curse

In an expensive place like San Francisco, affordable monthly rent - by most residents' standards, "affordable" means below $1,500 - can feel like "golden handcuffs." Real estate prices continue rising in the San Francisco-Bay Area - the regional median home cost hit a new high of $820,000 in April. Some locals fear that if they leave their fair-priced apartments, they won't be able to re-enter the golden gates of San Francisco.
