Are we training enough people to become programmers?

The IT industry contributed nearly £55 billion to UK economy in 2016 and makes up 4% of UK service economy. In 2016 just 20% of those taking a Computing GCSE exam were female. The British Computing Society is concerned that a lack of interest in computing at GCSE level will lead to a shortage of skilled workers in the growing industry in future. Is it right?
