Emission measurements investigation follow up: committee debate

The Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety will go over the recommendations of the Committee of Inquiry on Emission Measurements in the Automotive Sector (EMIS), with Commissioner Bieńkowska, on 14.03.18. The Environment Committee, being responsible for one of the two pieces of legislation investigated by EMIS (type approval of light passenger and commercial motor vehicles), is also responsible for a substantial part of the follow-up to the EMIS recommendations.




Financial crimes: plenary vote on composition of new special committee

Parliament will vote on the nominal composition of its new Special Committee on Financial Crimes, Tax Evasion and Tax Avoidance (TAXE 3), during its plenary sitting of 14.03.18. The Special Committee's 45 members have a 12-month mandate to build on and complement the work carried out by the TAXE 1 and TAXE 2 special committees, and the PANA inquiry committee.

Parliament will discuss two reports, prepared in the Committee on Budgets, in the framework of the EU's next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF), namely the report preparing the Institution's position on the MFF post-2020, and the report on reforming the EU's system of own-resources. It will also look into its proposed guidelines for the 2019 EU budget. All debates will take place during Parliament's plenary sitting of 13.03.18. The votes will take place on 14.03.18 and on 15.03.18.

Savings rise
The European Parliament will vote on the report on the employment and social aspects in the Annual Growth Survey 2018, as tabled by the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs, during its plenary sitting of 14.03.18. The day after, it will vote on the report tabled jointly by the Employment Committee and the Committee on Culture and Education on a decision regarding a common framework for the provision of better services for skills and qualifications, aiming to modernise Europass tools.

The MFF post-2020 should take into account lessons learnt and challenges encountered during the current MFF period, says Budgets Committee Chair Jean Arthuis, who also talks about preparations in the committee before the start of inter-institutional negotiations. Other topics featured in this issue of the Policy Departments' Monthly Highlights include investment in the Eastern Partnership countries, chip implants for workers, protecting minors in the digital age, and the future of Schengen.
