Open day of the European Institutions: visit the European Parliament in Brussels

The European Parliament will open its doors in Brussels on 05.05.18 to celebrate Europe Day. The public will have the opportunity to discover how Parliament and the other major EU institutions function by participating in debates, gathering information and enjoying guided tours of the buildings. Dedicated information material explaining the role of parliamentary committees and the legislative work undertaken by them in various policy areas will also be available.




Post-2020 Multiannual Financial Framework: committee debate

The Committee on Budgets will look into the Commission's proposal for the EU's next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF), covering the years 2021-2027, with Commissioner Günther Oettinger, on 03.05.18. The proposal is expected to set out not only how the Commission conceives the general framework for the next generation of EU programmes, including headline figures for each of the budget's main areas, but also how, in its view, the EU budget should be paid for after 2020 ('EU Own Resources').




European Social Fund and Youth Employment Initiative in practice: committee missions

A delegation of the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs will go to Austria on 07-09.05.18, to look into the functioning of European Social Fund (ESF) and the employment and social effects of free movement of person, including the coordination of social security systems and posting of workers. Another delegation will go to the Czech Republic on 09-11.05.18 to study best practices on matching skills and jobs, and to look at ESF and the Youth Employment Initiative projects in practice.




Structured Dialogue: in committee. Refugees: fact-finding mission to Famagusta

The Committee on Petitions will hold a Structured Dialogue with European Commission First Vice-President, Frans Timmermans, on 03.05.18. The Committee will then conduct a fact-finding visit to Famagusta and its sealed-off section, Varosha, in Cyprus, on 07-08.05.18. The visit will take place ten years after a first fact-finding visit to the island in the context of the follow-up to petition 733/2004, which had been submitted by Loizos Afxentiou on behalf of the Famagusta Refugee Movement.




EU financial support implementation and effectiveness: committee mission

The Committee on Budgets will send a delegation to the Basque Country, Spain, to learn more about the concrete use of EU financial support, assess the quality of its implementation and effectiveness on the ground, and evaluate concrete EU funded projects and future regional needs as regards the next Multiannual Financial Framework. The mission will take place on 07-08.05.18. Meetings will be held with regional and provincial authorities, local companies and stakeholders, amongst others.




Clean and efficient energy systems: committee mission

Choose the alternative energy source, wind or nuclear
The Committee on Industry, Research and Energy will send a delegation to Norway to get familiar with the particularities of the Norwegian energy system and the innovative ways to support the transition to clean and efficient energy. The mission will take place on 07-09.05.18, during which the mission will visit the Troll Gas Field, the Karmøy Aluminium Production Plant and the Lysebotn Power Plant, amongst others.
