Improvements to Met Office Weather Warning email alerts As you have signed up to receive Met Office weather warnings by email, we wanted to let you know that we will soon be updating and improving the design and information contained within these emails. After listening to user feedback, we have implemented a range of improvements to the way we produce, disseminate and communicate warnings. The weather warnings will essentially remain the same – they will be issued to warn the public and emergency responders of severe or hazardous weather. The warnings are given a colour (yellow, amber or red) depending on a combination of both the impact the weather may have and the likelihood of those impacts occurring. However, we are introducing the following changes: · Introducing two additional warning types– thunderstorms and lightning. These will be included in addition to the current weather types, which are wind, snow, rain, ice and fog. · Extending the warnings from five days ahead to seven days ahead. · Improving the language we use to communicate severe weather and impacts. · Improving the visual design across all Met Office digital channels including our website, mobile website, app and emails. You do not need to do anything in response to this email, as you will continue to receive this email service. This is just to let you know that the emails will look slightly different, and hopefully you will find the service even more useful. Met Office weather warnings will also continue to be distributed via a wide range of channels, including the Met Office website, mobile app and social media. |
