Breaking: House moves toward vote on bill to avert shutdown but Senate may reject it

Having trouble viewing this email? | View it in your browser   House Republicans' efforts to avoid a government shutdown appeared to be gathering momentum Thursday, but Democrats in the Senate are already preparing to kill the bill. Democrats argue that the month-long spending bill proposed by the House fails to protect immigrants brought to the U.S. illegally as children and doesn't address a broad array of other domestic spending priorities. Several Senate Republicans also said they would also oppose the stop-gap bill, indicating there are not enough votes to pass it in the Senate. If the House and Senate cannot agree on some kind of spending bill by Friday night, a partial government shutdown would begin Saturday, the one-year anniversary of President Trump's inauguration.
