Breaking: House passes short-term spending bill, but legislation faces long odds in Senate

  The House passed a four-week extension of funding on Thursday evening in an attempt to avert a government shutdown, but Senate Democrats said they had enough votes to block the measure. Current federal funding runs out at midnight on Friday. If the House and Senate don't come to an agreement before then, federal agencies will start to shutter and federal workers will be furloughed.
