09-02-2018 01:59 PM CET At their meeting of 8 February 2018, TERR Members held an in camera exchange of views on the use of European information systems with representatives of German and French police. The debate with Mr Jürgen Ebner from the German Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), and Mr Jean-Jacques Colombi from the French National Police focused on the use of these systems in sharing information relevant for the fight against terrorism. This exchange was followed by a public debate with Mr Krum Garkov, Executive Director of eu-LISA, on the role of eu-LISA in the management of EU databases. Eu-LISA was established in 2011 and is currently managing Eurodac, the second generation Schengen Information System (SIS II) and the Visa Information System (VIS). At the end of 2017, it was also tasked with developing the Entry/Exit System and ensuring its operational management. In June 2017, the Commission proposed to strengthen the mandate of eu-LISA in order to enable it to develop and roll-out the technical solutions to make the EU information systems interoperable. The Commission proposals on interoperability between EU information systems were presented on 12 December 2017.
